During World War II, researchers Howard Florey and Ernst Chain partnered with American engineers to develop deep-tank fermentation. Over the past decade, rapid price drops and government electrification mandates (like Saudi Vision 2030 and Morocco's green transition goals) transformed lithium-ion from an expensive luxury into a critical national infrastructure component across the MEA region.

Before modern polymers, packaging relied strictly on heavy glass, paper, wood, and metal. The plastic revolution began in 1907 when chemist Leo Baekeland created Bakelite—the world's first fully synthetic plastic.  

However, the real game-changer for packaging arrived in the 1930s and 1940s with the discovery of Polyethylene (PE) and Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). By the 1960s, lightweight plastic film and squeeze bottles began replacing breakable glass and soggy cardboard, lowering transportation fuel costs and extending food shelf lives worldwide. In 1988, the industry introduced the standardized 1–7 Resin Identification Codes to categorize plastics for manufacturing and sorting.
